A corn can form on different parts of the foot as a result of excess friction. It is defined as a hard, thickened area, and will typically cause severe pain and discomfort. If the shoes that are worn do not fit properly, a corn may form on the inside of the pinky toe. Relief may be found if a pad is worn over the affected area. Additionally, it may help to soak the affected foot in warm water, as this may aid in softening the corn. Afterward, a pumice stone can be used in gently filing the corn to remove any dead skin. When toenails are properly trimmed, pressure may be avoided from the nail touching the skin, and this may help to prevent corns from developing. If you are afflicted with corns, it is suggested that you seek the counsel of a podiatrist who can assist you in choosing the proper treatment.

When parents give their children daily baths, it is suggested that special attention be given to their feet. It is important to wash and dry thoroughly between the toes, and it may feel good to sprinkle a small amount of powder on the toes. Many parents underestimate the importance of wearing socks that fit correctly. When the right socks are worn, the feet will generally have ample room to grow. This is followed by choosing the correct size shoes, and this can be determined by having the feet properly measured. When children are indoors, the feet can become stronger while walking barefoot. When walking begins and the first shoes are purchased, it is beneficial to choose shoes that are made of breathable materials, in addition to having adequate room for the toes to move freely in. When the toenails are trimmed, ingrown toenails may be avoided when the nails are trimmed straight across the toe. The medical condition that is referred to as flat feet is also known as fallen or collapsed arches. This can occur as a result of an injury that has happened to the foot, genetic factors, or medical reasons that may include arthritis or pregnancy. Patients may experience pain and discomfort as a result of having this ailment, and it may affect the overall alignment of the body. Research has indicated there are stretches that can be performed which may be helpful in strengthening the feet. An effective way to stretch the heel is to extend one leg behind the other. As the heels are pressing into the floor, the heels and Achilles tendon are stretched. Some patients also find that it helps to roll their feet on top of a tennis or golf ball. This may help to stretch and strengthen the plantar fascia. If you have flat feet and would like additional information about how to perform stretches, please consult with a podiatrist.
